It only said Vendor

It is just a small red card, and all it says is Vendor. I held on to it anyway. My table, my paintings, out in the open for anyone to walk up to.

That part still makes me smile.

A tent, two tables and a lot of paintings

For a long time my paintings only knew my room. Then I packed them all up and brought them to NaSCon, and suddenly they were sitting under a gold tent with a blue table on one side and a red one on the other.

The big canvases ended up leaning on the grass because there was simply no space left. I liked them better there anyway.

Every little canvas got its spot

I went through them one by one on the blue cloth. Moons, oceans, a pair of flamingos, a lantern, a swan.

Seeing them all together like that was strange in the best way. Each one had been a quiet evening at home, and here they all were on one table.

Then the sun joined in

The small squares went on the red table with the big sun painting in the middle and a pot of little flowers beside it.

I had only ever really looked at these colours indoors. Out there in the afternoon light, some of them looked like paintings I had never seen before.

If you stopped at my table that day, thank you.

Hello, I'm Maheen

I paint with acrylics, and most of my paintings start at home in Islamabad on a quiet evening. I paint what I love looking at. Moons, sunsets, flowers, koi in a pond, a pair of swans. Some days it's something bright and a little silly instead, just because it makes me happy.

If one of these paintings means something to you, I'd love to hear about it. And if you have an idea of your own, tell me. I might just paint it for you.

“If a painting makes you stop for a second, that's enough for me.”
